Purlie Autry

PURLIE AUTRY (son of NED EDMUND AUTRY and MARY JOHNSON) was born on May 4, 1892. PURLIE left Bladen County sometime after 1910 . He settled in Youngstown, Ohio. Youngstown had a large number of available jobs due to the materials that were being produced to support the World War I effort. Most of the jobs were in the steel industry.

PURLIE worked in a factory. On October 16, 1914, a cement wall fell on him and killed him. He was 22 years old at the time. His body was returned to Bladen County and was buried in the Marshburn Cemetery in Bladen County, North Carolina. It appears that PURLIE may have been the first person buried in this cemetery.
